Roots Coffeebar & Café
Family holds a special place in the hearts of Heidi and Hilary, which is why they named their café “Roots.” The name represents the deep roots their family has in the Oconomowoc and Waukesha communities.
Growing up, they often talked about opening a coffee shop together, imagining a place where people could come together to spend quality time with each other. Inspired by their hard-working parents, Heidi and Hilary pursued their dream of opening a coffee shop.
Their father, an electrician for 34 years, and mother, a nurse who returned to school after having five children, instilled in them a strong work ethic. Unfortunately, their father was diagnosed with ALS just as he was set to retire and explore the world, but Heidi and Hilary were determined to make their dream a reality.
With a lot of planning, saving, and hard work, they finally opened their coffee shop in August 2011. Sadly, their father passed away in October of that same year, but he is remembered every day in the coffee shop, which is filled with family members and special touches, such as sandwich creations named after their parents’ favorite bands.
In 2015, Heidi and Hilary were honored to receive the Woman in Business Leadership award from the Oconomowoc Chamber of Commerce, a testament to their hard work and dedication to their family and community. At Roots, the love for family is palpable as soon as you walk through the door.
